“The reality of educational inclusion of children with disabilities in Tamil community: Northern Province and Upcountry Tamils in Sri Lanka”

紹介	スリランカにおいて、タミル・コミュニティは著しく教育が遅れてきた少数者集団だととらえられます。本シンポジウムでは、教育開発が遅れてきたタミルの子どもの教育的包摂に焦点をあてて検討します。

プログラム・概要/趣旨	Date: 28 Tue.) November 2023 Time: 17:00-19:00 IST: Indian Standard Time 20:30-22:30 JST: Japan Standard Time Venue: online (zoom) The first speaker, Mr. Sriskantharajah Sivakanthan (University of Jaffna), a medical anthropologist, presents us with the picture of educational inclusion of inclusion of children with disabilities (CwDs) focusing the Northern Province, one of the battlefields during the armed conflict. His research is centered on a mixed-method approach addressing concerns related to inclusive education for CwDs, as well as issues concerning accessibility and healthcare for persons with war-related disabilities in Northern Sri Lanka. The second speaker, Dr. Shanthy Dawson (Horizon Campus), who is specialized in special/inclusive education, speaks about the past development and current situation of educational inclusion of CwDs in Nuwara Eliya district which has the highest population of Sri Lanka’s Indian origin Tamils mostly living in the tea estates. Her focus is on upcountry Tamil medium schools and special/inclusive education conducted in these schools. Prof. Sae Nakamura, an anthropologist, University of Tokyo, provides another angle of analysis as a commentator. We provide captioning services in English. Those who have registered will be able to watch the recorded streaming video at a later date on request. We welcome registration by those who are unable to attend on the symposium day.
